What's the Difference Between Standard and Gentle Kinesiology Tape?

Gentle Kinesiology Tape

Not all Kinesiology Tapes are created equal. Some cling like a koala on a tree. Others take a softer approach. More cuddle, less cling. And if you've ever tried peeling off tape from sensitive skin, you’ll know which end of that spectrum matters most.

That’s where our Gentle Kinesiology Tape comes in. It’s kinder on the skin, perfect for those with sensitivity or anyone looking for more comfort from their tape. Meanwhile, our standard Kinesiology Tape (the one you all lovingly refer to as extra sticky) is built for staying power. It's the kind of tape you trust for intense training sessions, sweaty workouts, and everything in between.

So, what’s the real difference between the two? And which one should you be using? Let’s break it down.

THE MAIN DIFFERENCES: ADHESIVE STRENGTH & SENSITIVE SKIN

Before we get into it all. Let's have a quick refresher. Kinesiology Tape is a stretchy, skin-like tape designed to support muscles and joints without limiting your movement. Think of it like a second skin that lifts the surface slightly, helping with circulation, reducing pressure, and making everything feel a bit more supported.

Our standard rolls are built to stick. It's strong, flexible, and loves a challenge, whether that's a brutal gym session, a muddy rugby match, or a long-distance run in the rain. Once it’s on, it’s on. If applied correctly, you can get the best out of it for up to 5 days.

Gentle Kinesiology Tape, on the other hand, is made for... well, being gentle. It uses a softer adhesive and a little less glue, making it ideal for sensitive skin or those who just don’t need the industrial-strength grip. It's still water-resistant, still flexible, and still offers great support... just with a lighter touch.

Both tapes are latex-free, hypoallergenic, and use similar glues (none of the usual irritants like colophony or rosin). But if your skin tends to throw a tantrum at the sight of plasters or sticky things in general, the Gentle Tape is probably your best bet.

WHO SHOULD USE WHAT? SPORTS, RECOVERY & EVERYDAY USES

When it comes to choosing between our everyday rolls and the Gentle Kinesiology Tape, it's less about right or wrong and more about what your skin and sport are asking for. Are you mid-marathon with sweat pouring down your back? Or are you sat at a desk, nursing a stiff neck from bad posture and too many Zoom calls?

Our standard roll is your go-to for high-intensity movement, longer wear, and all-weather durability. It’s a favourite among runners, football players, CrossFitters, and physios strapping up joints before matches. If you’re training hard, sweating buckets, or need your tape to last all weekend, this is the one.

Gentle Kinesiology Tape is for the rest of us. The sensitive skinned, the easily irritated, the comfort-seekers. It’s popular with older adults, people recovering from injury, or anyone doing low-impact movement like yoga, Pilates, or just surviving a long dog walk.

It’s also often used (off-label, mind you) for boob taping and transtaping. However, we always recommend a patch test first and a whole lot of care as this isn't what the tape was originally designed for. Just be cautious is all we're saying and if you feel any discomfort at all, remove it straight away.

If you’ve ever had a dramatic tape removal moment, you know, the kind where your skin leaves with it, Gentle Kinesiology Tape might just change your relationship with support tape forever.

HOW LONG THEY LAST AND WHEN TO REMOVE THEM

Standard Kinesiology Tape is in it for the long haul. Once it’s on, it’ll usually stay put for 3-5 days, through sweat, showers, workouts, and even questionable attempts at sea swimming. It’s made to handle serious movement and keep providing support without peeling away at the edges.

Gentle Tape, while still water-resistant and flexible, is more of a short-term companion. You’ll get the best results within the first 48 hours, and we recommend wearing it for no more than 3 days. It’s perfect for lighter use or when you just need a bit of temporary support without committing to a full week of stick.

Now let’s talk removal, because that’s where Gentle really shines. Our everyday rolls needs a little more love to come off cleanly (Tape Off Spray is your best mate here). But Gentle? It’s far easier on the skin and less likely to leave you muttering regrets under your breath.

Whichever you use, always remove slowly and follow the direction of hair growth. Bonus tip: do it after a warm shower. Trust us, your skin will thank you.

SO WHICH TAPE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

If you want staying power, something that laughs in the face of sweat, and tape that’ll hold on through thick and thin... go with our standard Kinesiology Tape. It’s the one trusted by athletes, physios, and anyone who needs proper, long-lasting support.

If you’ve got sensitive skin, don’t need your tape to last for days, or you’re just after something a little comfier... our Gentle rolls are your best bet. It’s kinder, softer, and easier to remove, without compromising on flexibility or movement.

Still not sure? Test both. Skin and sport are personal, and there’s no one-size-fits-all. Just remember to always patch test if you're new to tape, and use Tape Off Spray if you want to avoid any dramatic exits.

Whichever you choose, your muscles will appreciate it. Want to learn more about either roll? Head to our learn page or get in touch. We're happy to help!
