WhyWeRun - An Ultramarathon Like No Other

WhyWeRun

The running hype-train is still very much chugging away and if you're one of the latest victims of the sport's infectious rise, we may have found your latest challenge...

To those of you who don't know, WhyWeRun is a unique 250km ultra event (stay with us), taking place in Pembrokeshire, Wales. 2024 marked the third year that it's taken place since its creation and, if you know anybody that has taken part, you'll know that it was one to remember.

Wanna find out why? Let's recap!

WHAT IS WHYWERUN?

BACKGROUND

Despite what you might presume, it's not a race. As their founder, Lewis Robling (@lewis_robling), put it, 'it has a far greater purpose than that'.

The event began as a way to enable runners to achieve something amazing. And if you've run before, you should be able to appreciate just how amazing it is! 250km, over 5 days, with 6,900 metres of elevation. Wow.

Not only that, the money raised by the athletes goes towards a really worthwhile cause. Bigmoose have made it their mission to support people through therapy and early interventions, so it's pretty clear why WhyWeRun would want to align themselves with the charity.

2 years on from their inaugural event and it's stronger than ever!

WHYWERUN 3.0

This year's event ran from the 23rd September to the 29th and once again saw its entrants tackle the beautiful scenic Welsh coastal path route.

Having followed the five days closely across their social channels (@itswhywerun), it looked visually incredible. With over £80,000 raised on top of that, it's no mystery why this year's runners were smiling the entire time!

One of the event's lead physios, Sophie Vecchione (@runfreerehab), was on-hand to tape and help keep the runner's feeling healthy for the full duration of those five days. After the event she explained just how incredible WhyWeRun is.

"Since the very first event in 2021, I’ve had the incredible privilege of being part of the WhyWeRun family. It’s not about chip times or podiums, but something much more meaningful: a shared commitment to community, connection, and raising funds for bigmoose.

Unlike other Ultra-marathon events, you get to witness the journey of the arrival nervous strangers, to the departure of one big family after sharing in the physical and mental challenges of the week. It truly is such an inspiring thing to witness."

WHYWERUN X SPORTTAPE

Unfortunately, we weren't able to convince anybody in the team to take part this year *sigh*, however, as the Official Tape Supplier of WhyWeRun, we were able to supply their team of 4 physios with a range of our tapes, from K Tape to Zinc Tan, in order to support each and every one of the runners.

If you know anybody that has done the event this year or in the last couple of years, they likely would have been sporting some SPORTTAPE across their body. This partnership means that all of the runners will have had the opportunity to get taped up and keep their body feeling 110% for each every kilometre.

As Sophie put it: "Of course, with ultra-marathons come the inevitable challenges of inflammation and injuries, keeping us physios on our toes. But thanks to SPORTTAPE, my role has been made a whole lot easier.

SPORTTAPE has been our trusted tape provider for the past two years, and I’m hopeful they’ll continue to be by our side for many more. Simply put, their tape is the best, built to withstand even the toughest ultra-marathons."

It's always exciting for us to be able to play even a small part in amazing events like this and if you'd like to learn any more about the event, head over to their website or feel free to get in touch and we'd more than happy to help you out!

Massive shoutout to Rich Gill @gilly_photography @rich.trails for the event imagery!📷
