Learn how to tape a thumb for THUMB SPRAIN, THUMB SPICA or SKIIERS THUMB using Zinc Oxide strapping tape. This application is used commonly for thumb injuries and can be adapted for use with EAB if more flexible support is needed.
IMPORTANT: Remember to seek medical advice first and whether you’re a seasoned taping pro or a first time taper, always fully assess before applying.
£2.99 – £7.49
Using Zinc Oxide 3.8cm.
Keeping the wrist in a neutral position, lay your anchor around the base of the wrist.
Alternatively, you could use 5cm TEAR EAB for the anchor (it has greater flexibility).
Using Zinc Oxide 2.5cm, or EAB 2.5cm if you want additional flexibility.
Abduct the thumb.
Apply Zinc Oxide/EAB from ulnar styloid, wrapping tape around the thumb, pulling the thumb back towards the palm (away from the movement you want to restrict).
Repeat your Zinc Oxide/EAB strip 2-3 more times until you have achieved the required stability, slightly overlapping each time.
Re-anchor around the wrist to secure the application.
