How to apply a SPORTTAPE Dermal Pad

The SPORTTAPE X D3O® Dermal Pad cushions, relieves pressure points, and gives you the contact confidence to get back in the game. It's reusable, flexible, and wipeable. Here's how to apply it — we're using the shoulder as the most common example, but the same technique works wherever you need it.

Step-By-Step Taping Guide

SPORTTAPE DERMAL PAD

IMPORTANT: Always seek medical advice before applying.

STEP 1 — Position the pad

Place the pad directly over the area you need it. Let your player do this — they'll know exactly where it's sore.

STEP 2 — Cut and peel your fixation tape

Pre-cut two strips of 10cm fixation tape — around 30cm each. Split the backing paper down the middle and peel both halves off together. Take your time here — it's fiddly, but worth it.

STEP 3 — Tension the skin and apply the first strip

Ask your player to bring their arm to roughly 90/90 — elbow out, upper arm parallel to the floor. This tensions the skin so the tape's far less likely to peel off during play. Stick the tape to the outside edge of the pad first, then smooth it around the pad and firmly pat it down onto the skin.

STEP 4 — Re-tension and apply the second strip

Hand on hip now. Ask your player to tilt away from the pad slightly to re-tension the skin on the other side. Apply the second strip the same way: outside edge of the pad first, then firmly pat down all around.

STEP 5 — Check it's comfortable

Ask your player to lift their arm above their head. If the tape holds and nothing's pulling, you're good to go.

HOW LONG WILL A DERMAL PAD LAST?

With proper care, one pad should see you through a full season. That said, keep an eye on it. If it’s showing signs of wear — thinning, tearing or losing its shape — it’s time to replace it. Don’t push it past its best.

CAN I SHARE MY PAD WITH A TEAMMATE?

We’d recommend against it. These are intended for single-user use. If it does get shared, make sure it’s thoroughly cleaned with soap and a damp cloth before someone else wears it. Skin contact means hygiene matters.

HOW DO I CLEAN IT?

Wipe it down with soap and a damp cloth after every session. That’s it. Let it dry fully before putting it back in the bag.

HOW DO I APPLY IT?

The pad has no adhesive of its own. Place it directly against the skin over the area you want to cushion, then secure it with your fixation tape as normal. It sits flat and won’t bunch under tape.
