Running Far and Fast: Edison’s Journey to 100 Miles

Edison Griffiths

At SPORTTAPE, we love seeing people push their limits—and no one does that better than Edison. By day, he’s our warehouse manager, making sure your orders get packed and shipped. But outside of work? He’s clocking up some crazy miles, smashing ultra marathons, and chasing some seriously fast times.

What’s wild is that just two years ago, Eds had barely run at all. Now, he’s training for a 100-mile race in the Brecon Beacons, balancing work with a training schedule that would break most people.

Given his progression over the past couple years, we're going to take a closer look at his journey, the mindset that keeps him going, and the massive challenges he’s got lined up next. Let's do it.

WHO'S EDISON GRIFFITHS?

Great question...

If you’ve ever ordered from SPORTTAPE, chances are it was Edison that packed it up and sent it out for you. He’s been a core member of the team for just over two years now, keeping things running smoothly in the warehouse. But when he’s not making sure your tape gets out the door, he’s either watching Man United (for better or worse) or jetting off on another holiday—seriously, the guy is always on the move.

A Welsh lad through and through—but with a soft spot for Ireland’s finest export: Guinness.

But if there’s one thing that truly defines Eds these days, it’s running. That’s his real obsession. We won’t dive into all of that just yet (we’ll get to the crazy distances soon), but let’s just say his idea of “going for a run” is very different from most people’s.

EDISON'S RUNNING JOURNEY SO FAR

I can’t imagine there are many 20-year-olds who have run as far or as hard as Edison. Not long after joining us at SPORTTAPE, he decided, on a whim, to run a marathon with little to no training. Understandably, we all had our doubts. Would he even make it to the half marathon mark (21.1km)? Somehow, he pushed through to 30km—without water, without gels, just pure stubbornness.

That was the moment something clicked. His love for running, and more importantly, his obsession with getting better at it really took off. In his first official half marathon, he blew our expectations out of the water with a 1:29 finish. But the real proof that Eds operates on a different level? Signing up for a 100km ultra up Snowdon.

After six months of brutal training, he lined up for the UTMB Ultra Trail 100km—one of the toughest races out there. Rough, relentless, and unforgiving, it took him just over 26 hours to complete. When he crossed the finish line, he wasn’t just a finisher; he was one of the youngest (if not the youngest) to ever do it.

Since then, he’s smashed multiple HYROX events, slashed his 5km, 10km, and half marathon times to near-elite levels, and racked up thousands of kilometres running. And again, he’s only 20.

THE MINDSET OF A YOUNG ELITE

Spend five minutes with Edison, and you’ll probably hear a David Goggins quote. He’s all about that stay hard mentality. Pushing through pain, finding new limits, and never making excuses.

While most 20-year-olds are figuring life out, he’s training like an elite athlete, chasing even faster times and even tougher challenges without any hesitation.

What’s crazy is he wasn’t a particularly standout athlete growing up (his words). He played rugby, but he never saw himself as anything special. Now, he’s clocking more miles in a week than most do in a year, purely because he’s wired differently. He thrives on suffering—the long runs, the brutal training, the exhaustion. That kind of mindset is rare, and it’s exactly why he’s always on track to do something nuts!

PUSHING LIMITS: WHAT'S NEXT FOR EDS?

At this point, is there anything he hasn’t signed up for?

It’s shaping up to be a ridiculously busy year for our warehouse manager. It all kicks off in a few weeks when he takes on the Newport Marathon, aiming for a sub-2:40 finish. He’s covered marathon distances before, but this time, it’s all about speed—42km at a pace most runners can only dream of.

Most people take a break after a marathon. Not Eds. Instead, he’s jumping straight into the Beacons Way 100 Mile Ultra—because, apparently, 100km wasn’t quite enough. This brutal race takes runners over South Wales’ highest peaks, including Pen-y-Fan and the Carmarthen Fans.

Surely, surely he’ll take a break after that? Nope. He’s already signed up for yet another 100-mile ultra, this time in Cornwall. By now, you probably get the picture—Edison isn’t just a runner. He’s something else entirely. And that’s exactly why we had to shine a spotlight on him.

Personally, I just picture Edison running along everyday with Dory's song from Finding Nemo playing through his head on a loop. "Just keep running, just keep running, just keep running, running, running".

So, there you have it—Edison, the warehouse manager who somehow finds time to run miles (and miles… and miles) on top of packing your orders. Whether he’s chasing a sub-2:40 marathon or tackling another 100-mile suffer-fest, one thing’s for sure: he’s just getting started.
