Step-By-Step Strapping Guide

STRAPPING FOR PATELLA MALTRACKING

IMPORTANT: Please seek medical advice before applying K Tape. Whether you’re a seasoned taping pro or a newbie, always fully assess before applying.

STEP 1

Using Kinesiology Tape, measure your tape between upper Quad to just below the knee.
Round the edges and cut a Y-Strip.
Apply the anchor with 0% stretch and then flex the leg as much as possible.
Apply the tails with 50% stretch, wrapping the patella.

STEP 2

Measure and cut Fixation Tape, and then apply over the inferior and superior patella.
Using Zinc Oxide Tape. Apply the tape from lateral to medial over the top of the Fixation Tape, folding back on itself at the mid-patellar line.
Apply a shorter strip from medial to lateral overlapping the first to create a small tab.
Place the patella into a medial glide with your thumb, and then stick the Zinc Oxide aka strapping patella tape down on the medial joint line.
Repeat on top of the other strip of Fixation Tape.

STEP 3

Using Kinesiology Tape, measure your tape across the width of the knee and cut 2 strips.
Apply anchor on lateral side with 0% stretch
Apply the middle section of the tape with 75% stretch, covering the Zinc Oxide and Fixation Tape.
Repeat for the other strip of Zinc Oxide Tape, covering it fully.

HOW LONG CAN I WEAR KINESIOLOGY TAPE FOR?

Our Kinesiology Tape can last up to 5 days. However, the greatest effects of Kinesiology Tape are felt within the first 24 hours of wear.

We would recommend removing your tape after 48hrs, since the positive effects are greatly diminished and to reduce the possibility of skin irritation.

SHOULD I SHAVE BEFORE APPLYING TAPE?

Shaving before applying is not necessary, however it unquestionably helps with adhesion and we would certainly recommend it if you are wearing tape for more intensive exercise. If you prefer, we recommend that you trim the hair down rather than a clean shave.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I APPLY THE TAPE INCORRECTLY?

If you don’t apply to the correct area then the tape will have little or no affect, so you won’t do any harm to yourself. However, the majority of ‘reactions’ to tape are actually skin irritations caused by an over-stretching of the tape, or excessive friction on the skin due to a poor application. So, be careful not to put too much stretch on the tape and always apply a test strip if using our tape for the first time.

I'M ALLERGIC TO ELASTOPLAST, WILL I GET A REACTION TO KINESIOLOGY TAPE?

Our Kinesiology Tape glues don’t contain any colophony or rosin, which are the normal irritants for anyone with an Elastoplast allergy. However, we would recommend that anyone with an Elastoplast allergy trials a small test patch before using Kinesiology Tape as the skin sensitivity may disagree with any kind of adhesive against it.
